Is it appropriate to ask my employee to move me to morning shifts?

I got a summer job and KFC and I'm staying for the school year. Anyways, during the summer, he has me working from 4 to 10. I'm 16 by the way. I really don't want to work these hours once school starts, because I want to have a social life. It's my SENIOR YEAR. I don't want to be a pain though, because I just got this job. I'm also thankful for the job. How should I go about asking him this after school starts back up?
