Question about Vortex rings?

I'm not sure I understand your question, however being brave, I'll take a shot at it. I think the answer is entropy. All things meet some resistance, and that resistance will slow down and eventually dissipate all the energy into heat which dissipates into the environment. Does that sound like what you are looking for?
