Son in law friend is it okay to date him?

Some in my family believe it is not appropriate for me to date my son inlaw friend...he asked me out saying he wanted to for many years but was afraid to approach me,hes 31 im 45,we went out once,nothing serious but he still calls me,text,fbooks me,is it wrong to date him.Ive known him 12 years.
